How exactly can a person's go-to hobby help them in life?
I recently came across an interesting website that outlines the many values of camping. KOA.com, "12 Benefits of Camping: Why Camping Is Good for You" highlights several overlooked values of my favorite hobby: camping. For easy access, here's the resource: Click Here. Strikingly, the source explains how camping can serve a person by helping that person build stronger "relationships." The picture above shows me camping solo. I turned a bale of hay into a tent. But what's interesting here is that this campsite inspired a passerby to approach me and talk to me. We had a very good conversation. I talked long about how this campaign serves to promote literacy, Dickinson State University, and Southwestern North Dakota. Every relationship has two people starting off as strangers, then becoming friends. So, yeah, camping can help one with relationships.
Another overlooked value of my favorite hobby, as this source outlines, is that camping helps one "develop new skills." An example skill that I developed in the experience depicted above is my ability to innovate survival shelters.
Thirdly, the source explains how camping can help one by encouraging them to cook and eat interesting foods. Too often in life, people restrict themselves to routines that do not inspire different tastes. By getting out into nature, people do introduce new tastes into their lives. A meal cooked over a fire can be one of the best culinary experiences a person can have. The picture above reminds me of the meal I enjoyed while camping on this particular night: A flame-cooked, peanut butter, raspberry steak.
