It has been said that great leaders are born, not made. Do you agree? Why or why not?

This campaign wouldn't have happened had I believed in what is called the "Great Man" theory on leadership. This theory suggests that a great leader is born into their role. They somehow have everything they need to be a great leader from the time their born. In short, they someone got lucky. They got lucky in that they were born with a special set of skills required for them to make a difference in the world. The theory that actually made possible this four-tier leadership campaign on literacy is the behavioral theory. This theory suggests that great leaders make themselves into the leaders that they become. They develop, over time, the characteristics essential to leading. This is how I was able to lead with my campaign. Over time, I developed the confidence, knowledge, and practice necessary to be able to lead with my camera, my camping gear, and my books. I made myself into the leader I needed to be. I believe everyone can likewise make themselves into the leaders the world needs. There is no being born into something. People always make themselves into what they need, and what others need.
