What would be the script for your professional plea?
I want everyone to fall in love with North Dakota. This is my professional plea. I have lived in North Dakota for the most part of my life. I was born here. I studied here. I excelled here. North Dakota will always be my home. To appreciate this place means visiting this place. There are lots of uncharted areas of the United States that people never think of. Southwest North Dakota has so much to offer people. We have the Badlands. We have Medora. We have Dickinson State University.
As part of my attempt to spotlight Southwest North Dakota, I have created a leadership campaign. But this leadership campaign means nothing without people appreciating the grand design. The grand design of this campaign is one that serves a multitude of different causes. Firstly, it serves to promote the area. To that end, I’m going to make sure that all of my camping videos and pictures are documented solely in Southwestern North Dakota.
Secondly, this campaign serves to promote literacy. I have been a lifelong reader. I have been a lifelong writer. My fondest memories of school are of me writing and reading shorts stories in front of the classroom. I used to volunteer frequently to read stories I had written. I want to instill in everyone a deeper appreciation for literacy. To do that, I’m showing people that a book is portable. Go somewhere and read. Traveling can create the excitement needed to read carefully and write thoroughly.
Thirdly, this campaign serves to promote my alma mater, Dickinson State University. I have long appreciated the starting point that Dickinson provided for my academic career. I first fell in love with the prospect of teaching by observing many great faculty deliver their classes at DSU. I can remember, for instance, Dr. David Solheim, a lifetime friend, instructing his classroom on American Literature. I can still remember being inspired by the Transcendentalist movement.
